Many doubts over coop farming

In response to the State government’s plans to implement cooperative farming, I would like to state that it was only partially successful even in Communist countries like China and the erstwhile Soviet Union, where coercive methods were used.

‘Cooperative culture’ in any field has not been fully successful, as in the case of urban cooperative banks. Moreover, it is impossible for farmers to surrender their legal ownership rights on their land-holdings to a cooperative society, except under coercion, as their emotional attachment to the land is deep-rooted.

The existing problems of farming community are due to shortage of agricultural implements like fertilizers and intermittent power supply.

If these are supplied to meet the demands of the farmers, then output per acre would multiply substantially.

It will be prudent to take up cooperative farming in select villages only after carrying out a feasibility study.
